Online Roulette – How to Play

How toOne of the reasons for roulette’s massive popularity is its simplicity. You can know absolutely nothing about odds, strategies, or even roulette itself, and within a few rounds, you will have it mastered.

Before going any further, it’s important to clarify something – there are actually two different kinds of roulette commonly found at online casinos.

European Roulette

In all games of roulette, there are 36 numbers on the wheel – 18 are red, and 18 are black.

There is also a zero, which is the green slot in the wheel. This gives the house the edge, although you could bet on zero if you want with great payouts if you strike it lucky.

What defines European roulette is that it only has one zero.

American Roulette

American roulette looks the same at first glance, but it isn’t. The difference is that there are two zero’s, as well as the 36 regular red and black numbers.

Which style you prefer to play is entirely up to you. However, the house edge in American roulette is always bigger. For that reason, we at Footy Latest always prefer to play European roulette games.

Anyway, now that is cleared up, let’s focus on how to actually play roulette. It’s remarkably simple, just like we said:

First, you pick a number or numbers to bet on. You can decide how much you want to bet at online casinos. You could bet on just one number, or can bet on as many as you wish.

There are also other types of roulette bets you can make, but we will go into those in a little bit. For now, let’s keep it simple.

Second, the dealer spins the roulette wheel. He or she tosses a ball onto the wheel, and if it lands on a slot with your number, you win.

Depending on what way you bet, your payout could be anything from 1:1 to 35:1. Again, we will outline the odds of each roulette bet in a little bit.

Finally, the dealer collects any losing bets then pay winning bets. A new round of roulette will then begin.

The Different Roulette Bets You Can Make

There are lots of different types of roulette bet. It isn’t always a case of just picking a number, or several, and going with that.

Here’s a quick rundown of the different types of bet and what they each pay:

Red or Black

Since each number also has a designated colour, you can simply bet on red or black. Half of the numbers between 1-36 are red, and half are black. You also have the zero to factor in, but that only comes up rarely.

Red or black bets pay 1:1. Bet £10 and you will get £10 profit if you win.

Evens or Odds

Naturally, each number is either even or odd. You may bet on this outcome, just like either red or black.

It probably comes as no surprise that this also pays out 1:1. Bet £10 and you will again get £10 profit if you win.

Lows or Highs

This is yet another way to classify roulette numbers into two tidy groups. Lows constitute numbers between 1-18 and highs constitute numbers between 19-36.

Again, since this is a roughly half/half bet (remember, there’s always that zero), it pays out 1:1. Bet £10 and you will again get £10 if you win.

Dozens

This clusters the various numbers on the wheel into three groups, rather than two.

Numbers 1-12 is the first dozen, numbers 13-24 is the second dozen, and number 25-36 equal the final dozen.

This bets pays out slightly better since the odds are lower. You will get a 2:1 payout if you are right. Bet £10 and win, and you will walk away with £20 profit.

Columns

Take a look at the roulette table, beside the wheel itself, and you will notice all 36 numbers are listed in rows and 3 columns of 12. It’s possible to bet on these columns.

Column bets pay out 2:1. Once again, pick the right column and you get back £20 on a £10 bet.

Individual Numbers

You can always bet on individual numbers on the table, too. Each individual number between 1-36 pays out a 35:1 rate, meaning if you bet £10 and it just happens to come up, you can get a £350 return!

There are other roulette bets you can make including picking between 2 and 6 numbers. As always, the fewer numbers you pick, the greater the payout if you do get it right.

We won’t cover every single roulette bet here. Take a look at the roulette table in greater detail and you will soon see what you can bet on.

Online Roulette Strategies – How to Win

Tips & TricksAs we said at the beginning winning roulette is largely a matter of luck. There is nothing you can do to force it, although there are some popular strategies which players use with varying degrees of success.

The Martingale

Beware that this can be a risky strategy, however, with a large enough bankroll, you basically can’t lose.

The idea behind this is to double your bets every time you lose. Eventually, thanks to good old fashioned mathematics, you win back everything you have lost up to that point plus your original stake.

Here’s a quick example:

Bet £1 on red, and lose. Let’s say you then bet £2 on red, and lose again. Finally, you bet £4 on red, and win. You win £4 plus your original stake, giving you £8 in total. How much did you lose on the two previous bets? £2 + £1 = £3, meaning you are up a tidy £1 when the bet comes good.

Beware that table limits can cause this strategy to crash and burn. Most online roulette games have a maximum bet. If you reach it before you get a winner, this strategy falls apart. For this reason, it is best to either find a high-limits roulette game or bet small enough so that your bets don’t get too big, too quickly.

Winning Streaks

Probably the best strategy, in our experience. It focuses on the one thing all experienced casino players have experienced at one point or another – the winning streak.

The idea behind this strategy is to be aware enough to realize you are on a roll and take advantage. Bet big when you smell lady luck’s seductive scent in the air and have the discipline to slam the brakes and scale your bets back when she vanishes.

This can lead to some nice wins. Of course, lady luck is a fickle creature, and you never know if she will stay for a while or leave you on the next spin of the wheel. As we said, roulette is a game of luck.

Covering Most Outcomes

There is no way to bet on every outcome and win. Casino operators aren’t stupid, and if you bet on every outcome, you lose by default.

However, there are ways to cover the majority of the possible outcomes. For example, let’s say you bet on two dozens. Since these pay 2:1, if you bet £10 on each of the two dozens you want to wager on, and win one, you will win £20 and lose £10.

This is slightly risky. You might just be unlucky and the ball might fall within the other 12 numbers. That said, you are giving yourself the best chance possible by betting on 24 of the 37 possible outcomes (never forget the zero).

This can be a relatively successful roulette strategy. If you are lucky, you could win several in a row and bounce.
