The Arsenal winger Theo Walcott periodically states in interviews that he wants to play as centre-forward for the Gunners instead of being marooned out on the wing all the time.
Arsene Wenger has also said in the past that Walcott could develop into a new Thierry Henry in the future, but he admits that he doesn’t have anyone better to play on the wing with Walcott’s blistering pace at the moment.
He said: “Walcott’s respectful and we know him well,”
“His desire is to play in the middle and one day he will. He’s still running 100m in 11 seconds so it’s good to put him out there.
“At the moment first of all I have no midfielders who are comfortable wide: neither Arteta, nor Ramsey are completely really wide players.
“And I would say that Ramsey is more uncomfortable on the flank than Walcott is comfortable inside at the moment.”
And (let’s be honest here) Wenger is hardly going to put Walcott in the middle while Robin Van Persie is still around is he?
