The Arsenal centre-back Thomas vermaelen now feels fully recovered from his long term injury, but accepts that now he has much more competition for a place in the Gunners first team after Wenger bought Per Mertesacker in the summer.
He has joined Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou and Squillaci in competition for the two centre-back positions, but the Belgian international thinks that it only good for Arsenal that Wenger has so much choice this season.
“The boss now has a lot of choices in defence whereas in the past he had only a few,” said Vermaelen.
“We have had injuries as well but now everybody is fit and there is a lot of competition. It can only be good for the team that the boss has a lot of options over which players are going to play.”
He also made it clear that he feels he is fully fit and ready to be a regular starter again. He said: “I feel fit and I had this as well last year,”
“I was out for eight months and I played the last two games of the season but I still felt quite well.
“I work hard when I’m injured, I do my work, and when I come back I feel physically strong and good enough to be on the pitch.”
He certainly is good enough, but I think that Wenger will still use Vermaelen sparingly until he is certain that he is totally match fit.

Thomas is fully fit i think he can do morethan per matersacker, i suggest he should be regular for league while matersacker for other competition
