Underfire Hodgson needs a result at Molineux to save his job

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy might have earned a reprieve on Saturday with his side’s crucial win against QPR taking the West Midlands club out of the dropzone, but the underfire Irishman will need to pick up points on a more consistent basis if Wolves are to survive the drop this season.

Wolves’ next challenge comes in the form of a crucial derby at home against West Bromwich Albion. McCarthy’s rival manager Roy Hodgson is also under all sorts of pressure, but will be happy to play away from home, with 18 of his side’s 26 points this season coming on the road.

The match also marks Hodgson’s one year anniversary at the club, with the former Liverpool and Inter Milan boss having taken over at Albion from Roberto di Matteo this time last year. While West Brom are not exactly in the relegation dog fight yet, their home form is a true recipe for disaster with the fans clearly not happy with the quality of football they have been subjected to.

A win this coming Sunday against their bitter rivals could get Hodgson a temporary reprieve though.
