Under fire Liverpool targetman Andy Carroll receives support from opposition

Under fire Liverpool targetman Andy Carroll has found an admirer in Bolton manager Owen Coyle. The Trotters are next in line to face the Reds and Coyle admitted that Carroll could prove to be a big threat.

Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Coyle said, “I don’t think there is any doubt he will reproduce that form. He is an outstanding young player. His quality is unquestioned. We have to make sure he doesn’t show it against us.”

Many must have been left bewildered by Coyle’s statements, especially since Carroll has looked nothing like a £35m player and has only managed to score 4 goals in 22 appearances this season. Liverpool fans and Kenny Dalglish in particular though will be hoping that Carroll begins to show some signs of his alleged abilities at the earliest, especially at a time when the Reds are struggling to keep pace with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Coyle also tipped Liverpool to win the Carling Cup and was quoted as saying, “Kenny Dalglish is used to winning trophies. Now they are on the verge of reaching the Carling Cup final, when they would be big favourites given a team from the Championship will be the opposition.”

Well he would say that wouldn’t he? Any fool can see that a manager would say anything to ensure a useless non-goal-scorer turns out for the team he is about to play! Coyle wants Carroll to be there to allay any fears of having a sharp attack to go against!
