Liverpool are preparing a bid for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who would be available for more than £20million and the Daily Mail reports that the offer for the Armenia international will not depend on the future of Luis Suarez. Suarez has admitted that he is open to a move to Madrid with city rivals Real and Atletico vying for his signature but Liverpool are keen to sign Mkhitaryan after scouting him for months. The 24-year old banged in 20 goals for Shakhtar last season and is viewed as a player capable of guiding the Reds back into the top four. Liverpool are also reportedly chasing Schalke’s Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Reading defender Alex Pearce for almost an year but the club’s failure to complete the deal has allowed Newcastle to swoop in. According to the Shields Gazette, the Toon are pondering over a move for Pearce, who will be a free agent this summer. Liverpool are searching for a replacement for the retired Jamie Carragher while Newcastle are keeping tabs on Pearce due to the uncertain future of Fabricio Coloccini.
