Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made a move for Brazilian youngster Leandro Damiao, with the Internacional striker himself confirming the approach in an interview to Telefoot. Damiao has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time now, with Liverpool the first to track the 22 year old. Even Arsenal were rumoured to have watched the £22 million-rated striker, who already has four International caps to his name. But Spurs have seemingly moved at the head of the queue, even ahead of the big-spending PSG.
“I am not aware of anything for an offer from Paris SG,’ said Damiao. ‘I have had no contact with PSG or Leonardo. For now, I think about my club and the Copa Libertadores. In July, if a proposal comes, it will be discussed. All that I know is that Tottenham have made an offer.”
Spurs have been on the lookout for a striker for a while now, with Harry Redknapp keen to bring in a young centre-forward. Tottenham have been blessed by the great success enjoyed by Emmanuel Adebayor this season. But the Togo striker is on-loan from Manchester City and his wage demands mean that Tottenham are unlikely to make the deal permanent in the summer. Louis Saha has been brought in as a temporary replacement for the departed Roman Pavlyuchenko while Jermain Defoe has had an up and down 18 months.
Damiao has scored 52 goals since joining Internacional in 2010, with his honor list including one Copa Libertadores. The striker has caught the eye of European clubs with his goal scoring exploits and it remains to be seen if the club manage to hold on to their starlet when the suitors circle around in the summer.
