Thursday 28th Feb – Chelsea daily news round up

Rafael Benitez has hit out at the fans for tarnishing the club’s image and confirmed that he will step down at the end of the season. Benitez’s future has been the subject of much talk and a host of names have been linked with his job at Chelsea. However, the Metro quotes the Spaniard saying after the Blues’ win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, “These Chelsea fans have an agenda. These Chelsea fans are damaging the image of the club. They are wasting time with their banners and songs. They don’t need to worry about me. I leave at end of the season.”

Neymar has been one of the hottest properties in world football with several clubs across Europe desperate to sign the Brazilian. But the forward’s club, Santos has moved to thwart any attempts to be made by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona to sign the 21-year old by offering him a new deal. The Metro understands that Santos are keen to extend the player’s contract and the club’s vice-president said, “The club’s managing committee has already decided, we intend to extend his [Neymar’s] contract beyond 2014, we are working to make that happen. We have already opened talks with Neymar’s father, who denies there is any kind of agreement [with Barcelona] and we believe him. He said Neymar will be where he is happy.”
