Luis Suarez has stated that he will be ‘spurred on’ by any abuse that comes his way at Old Trafford this weekend as he comes fact to face with Patrice Evra. The Uruguayan returned from his 8-match ban earlier this week against Tottenham Hotspur. But Old Trafford on Saturday will give the striker a hostile reception and Suarez claims to be ready for the worst as he prepares to face the player he racially abused less than a few months ago.
According to ESPN, Suarez said, “I know against Man United it is going to be tense because I’m going to face Evra. But I’m used to having fans whistle at me. I hope nothing unusual happens. I’ll have to forget what happened for that moment. I do know Man United fans are going to try to make me feel uncomfortable. But I have to tell them – they are going to spur me on if they whistle at me. “
Suarez seems to feel victimized somehow when it is actually he who caused the whole ruckus by using racially insensitive language. Evra was booed at Anfield a few weeks back during an FA Cup for being the victim in the whole incident and a similar reaction can be expected from the Man United fans on Saturday. The tribal nature of football has taken over stadiums in England and as indicated by Chelsea fans booing Rio Ferdinand last week it is purely a reactionary approach taken by fans in lieu of prudent judgement.
