Porto V Chelsea preview

Chelsea-LogoThe battle for the summit in group D takes place in Portugal tonight. Both teams have already qualified so there should be no worries, but it does matter whether you finish top or 2nd, with the likes of Unirea and Wolfsburg likely to qualify as runners-up as opposed to the likes of Barcelona, Man Utd, and Arsenal rated in the top level.

The H2H stats show Chelsea have won 3 times over Porto since 2004, but all were at the Bridge. In Portugal Porto won once and settled for the draw once, this being the 3rd game in Portugal between the two.

This time around Chelsea has the advantage of leading with one point, so a draw would be enough for the Blues. After all, they play hosts to APOEL in the last round, and it’s a given they will win over the Cypriot side.

Porto though lost in their last domestic league fixture vs Maritimo just before the international break, so it’s unclear if they have regained their strength yet, but at least we know they have no fresh injury problems.

The main key element I’d be basing my bet on is that Chelsea are involved in a fierce competition at the top of the EPL table, and are facing Arsenal in the weekend, so I suspect they will be resting some of their key players tonight, and those who will be fielded will probably want to preserve their energy.

Picks:

Under 2.5 goals @ 1.62 w/ BlueSQ or Stan James
Draw @ 3.30 w/ Ladbrokes
