The Everton manager David Moyes managed to persuade Real Madrid to let Royston Drenthe come to Goodison Park on deadline day, and although the Scotsman is certain that the Dutchman is a very talented player he is not sure if he can control his part-going personality.
But Moyes has brought in problem players before and it has worked out so he is hoping that Drenthe will be another gamble that comes off for Everton. “We did it with Steven Pienaar when he was out in the cold,” said Moyes. “And it happened with Mikel Arteta too, who couldn’t get a game with Real Sociedad when we took a risk on him,”
“Royston has a big talent – you don’t get Real Madrid signing you if you don’t have that. But let’s put this in the right box. It didn’t work out for him there and we signed him at the last minute.
“It could work out for us, but sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a little bit of the unknown right now, but we are hoping he will work for us and we can sign another talented player.”

“He’s lively alright – he’s very loud around the place, which has been a good thing for the squad.”
“He’s a character, and at the moment we’ve enjoyed having him. He’s been fine. Yes he has a reputation for a good time, and he’s been keeping us on our toes.
“But he’s still pretty young, and maybe he’s got fire in his belly because he’s wanting to prove himself.
“I’ve met his family, and he’s got his kids over here, and hopefully he’ll be a good boy. But we are just getting to know each other at the moment, so we’ll see.”
Drenthe is expected to make his debut for the Toffees today against Wigan, and Everton fans could get their first taste of another star at a bargain price. Moyes always seems to manage to find at least one every summer…..
