Micah Richards – Man City players should learn from Tevez tantrum

Manchester City’s striker Carlos Tevez lost the trust and back-up of his team mates after he refused to go on the pitch as a substitute in the Champions League group stage game against Bayern Munich. In previous arguments with Mancini, Tevez was at least sure of the fact that he had the support of the rest of Manchester City’s players. But after disappointing them that much in Tuesday’s match that’s all gone now.

“Carlos’ reaction in Munich was wrong. It was something he shouldn’t have done.”, said Micah Richards.

“There was always going to be a bit of tension because Carlos is a top player and hasn’t been getting in the team. But there was no sign that he was going to do what he did.

“I like Carlos. He’s probably still the best player that I have played with and I’ll always be grateful he came to City and helped us achieve what we did last season.

“He’s been our best player for the last couple of years and won’t be happy the manager has been picking other strikers ahead of him.

“But we are a top team now. We can’t just be about one or two players because if you want to challenge for the big trophies it has to be about the strength of your squad.

“There’s a lesson for us to learn here. If we want to be a top team then as individuals we have to sacrifice ourselves. I went through it myself. I might not be a big name like Carlos Tevez but I am an England international and I thought I should be playing in every game.

“You do get emotional. Your pride does hurt. I found it hard when I wasn’t in the team and at times I did struggle to just keep my head down and say nothing.

“Aguero and Dzeko have been on fire this season and when Balotelli came on last week against Everton he scored an important goal.

“I thought Carlos was just waiting for his chance to show what he could do.

“You’re never happy if you aren’t playing, but we’ve got a big squad and we’ve all just got to use it.”

The next step for Tevez is to transfer now, and he has mega-rich French team PSG on his tail along with Inter Milan. One of the two can bring about Tevez’s escape from City, the only problem being the transfer fee. Inter Milan is ready to pay £25 million for the Argentine striker, but Manchester City wanted to sell him in the summer for £40 million, and there is a big difference between the two transfer fees. Perhaps PSG will be the better destination for the Argentine. The French have bigger goals and they sure have bigger salaries. And Tevez won’t have to miss being around an all-star team. PSG is turning out to be just that.

    That is the other side of playing for man city, they over pay their players even for sitting in the stands. Transfer becomes a problem as no team may be able or willing to pay uch bloated wages or market price. The end result is man city players on loans all over and man city subsidising as the teams cann o tpay them. If they insist on 40m, then tevez will be on their payroll for a long time. Many players go for the high wages but don not remember the effect if they have to leavecity and where they go next.

    @Odu:

    Its the way you move up the player quality scale. You can’t just buy the Agueros of this world as a mid-table club no matter how much money you have.

    Think about what you post before you state the blindingly obvious.
