The Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been strongly linked with Arsenal recently but according to source at the Croatian club, he is nigh on certain to be joining Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd team.
It seems that Arsene Wenger had had Arsenal scouts watching Kovacic for some time, but was put off by Zagreb’s £10m asking price, but Ferguson seems to be happy to pay that for such a promising talent.
Goal spoke to a source at Zagreb who told them: “Man United have made it clear they are looking at Kovacic in a big way and they think he is a future star.”
“His age and price tag means January will probably be too soon but the feedback is that the player’s preference would be a move to Old Trafford and United are favourites to sign him.”
Kovavic himself said just last month that he was happy that Man Utd had taken an interest in him when he said: “I am honoured to be linked to clubs like Juventus and Manchester United. For now I am happy here, but my day will come.”
“Every footballer is dreaming of playing for one of the best clubs in the world.”
Kovacic has been favourably compared to Luka Modric, and if he is only half as talented as the Tottenham star, then Ferguson will have a bargain for just £10m, and Arsene Wenger may regret pulling out of the race in the future.

trust me, i’ve been fighting luka’s case ever since he set foot on croatian pitches, and i know when i’m talking about when saying that this boy is going to be better player than modric
