Twenty three year old Serbian defender Neven Subotic, currently playing in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, has emerged as a possible transfer target for Premier League champions Manchester United this summer, according to The Metro
Subotic, who is under contract with Dortmund till 2014, is reportedly valued at close to £20 million by the club, but their resolve to hold on to their prize asset will be under the scanner by a possible £16.5 million bid from United.
Subotic is an international teammate of Nemanja Vidic, and the current Manchester United skipper has reportedly spoken very highly of the youngster.
The arrival of Subotic could, however, raise some doubts about the future of England international Rio Ferdinand. The injury prone defender has featured for United whenever he has been fit this season, but the presence of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, does raise the question whether Ferdinand is still a necessary presence in the United backline, especially once Vidic returns from injury next season.
