Brian Kidd was once Sir Alex Ferguson right hand, but now belongs to the ‘enemy’ camp at Eastlands, and he is adamant the Citizens are about to re-write history wntering a ‘great era’ as did United -when he was involved- in 1993.
Man Utd had spent 26 years without a title, having last won the “First Division” title in 1966-67, before managing to win the Premier League in 1992-93, with Kidd working under Ferguson.
Now the Citizens number two claims something similar is about to happen to Man City, who had last won the First Division title in 1967-68 and had lifted their last FA Cup in 1969.
Roberto Mancini’s side have already spent in excess of £76m this summer, and could be up for more in a bid to bring back the blue half of the city on the English and European football maps.
Kidd told The Sun: “It’s similar to how it was at United when we won that first title. We just need a trophy to get us on a roll,
“When we won the League Cup in 1992, everybody was doing cartwheels because we had qualified for Europe. That’s what it meant.
“But it went on from there. We need the first trophy at City and, once we win one, the mentality will grow.
“I honestly believe there are a lot of talented players here. We have a great squad now.
“When you look at it, United won the league and that’s how it grows. It’s about silverware, it’s a results business.
“That’s what happens. It grows and you want more. It’s like goalscorers – if they have a lean time, they get worried.
“But if a striker scores one then things change and the others start to come. It’s a mindset. The demands are huge but, once something happens, it sparks other things.”
