The Man City boss Roberto Mancini has failed in his bid to take the young Danish wonderkid Christian Eriksen to the Eastlands and is now concentrating all his efforts on persuading Arsene Wenger to let Samir Nasri to leave Arsenal after refusing to sign his contract extension.
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots explained his clients position yesterday. He said: “Christian was very flattered by the interest from City, but at the moment it is not the step he wants to make.
“The feeling has to be right. It’s not about the money.”
The Mirror has quoted a “Man City insider” as saying that the interest in Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder is not true.
The source was quoted as saying: “Sneijder isn’t an option at the moment, but Nasri still is.
“It is simply being viewed inside the club as a bit of mischief-making by Inter because they are hoping to swap players for Carlos Tevez.”
Arsene Wenger will be loather to sell Nasri unless a top-class replacement is lined up to appease the Arsenal fans, and as Juan Mata seems to have decided to remain in Valencia Wenger may have no choice but to force Nasri to play out his contract and let him leave for free next summer.
There were major rumours about a bust-up between Wenger and Nasri last week, and Wenger felt the need to issue a personal denial. He said: “I cannot speak about it but there is no major problem between Samir and myself.”
This will prove to be a very interesting week for Arsenal fans and Arsene Wenger himself if he can’t hang on to both Nasri and Fabregas without getting replacements. But will he be able to refuse Man City’s offer?
