Liverpool have always been a leading candidate to win the CL title over the past few years. However, things have deteriorated for the giant club and are already eliminated from this season’s version, and the Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard can only see his side winning the Europa League in it’s stead to maintain Liverpool’s continental status.
The bitterness and disappointment of the fans and players are beyond words, but life must go on, and that is what Gerrard is all about.
“Now, we must try to win the Europa League.” declared Gerrard.
“Of course it’s disappointing, we played fantastically well tonight and despite getting three points we don’t progress,
“The main prize has gone and to be playing in the Europa League is disappointing but we have to accept that, move on and try to win that competition.”
In our view, Gerrard is being realistic and his is the most proper response possible. Liverpool are already out of the Carling Cup as well, while their hopes of catching up with the EPL top runners are in decimal fractions.
Only the Europa Cup is left on the continental scene, and the FA Cup on the domestic scene to save the Reds’ season.
