The Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti reportedly made a bid for the Wigan midfielder James McCarthy in January, but Wigan refused to allow him to move to Stamford Bridge halfway through the season. McCarthy only joined Wigan last summer but has been an instant hit at the DW Stadium.
Chelsea are expected to return with a £7m bid for the youngster in June, but now the Liverpool coach Kenny Dalglish is hoping to persuade his fellow Scotsman to join him at Anfield instead.

McCarthy nearly joined Liverpool when he was just 16 years old while Benitez was manager, but the youngster decided to stay at Hamilton Academicals to continue his education.
Although Chelsea are bound to be a great draw for McCarthy, Dalglish is hoping that the fact he is more likely to go straight into the Liverpool first team and he will prefer to be much closer to his friends and family in Scotland.
