While Javier Mascherano starts loading books into cardboard boxes ahead of his move from Merseyside to Milan, it appears as though Liverpool are close to the signature of a young Dutch defender who could help bolster the rearguard next season.
Royston Drenthe is currently on the books at Real Madrid, although it’s though that the left-back has no future at the club after Jose Mourinho arrived as manager. Indeed, the player has posted a message on his Facebook page claiming that he’s soon going to become a Liverpool recruit, even though the club haven’t been prepared to claim this.
Liverpool certainly need to sign a left-back and were thought to be tracking Honduran left-back Maynor Figueroa, currently on the books at Wigan. However, Drenthe has claimed:
“I will soon be joining Liverpool FC. I hope I will have a good season”.
