Liverpool according to Spanish newspaper website El Mundo have given permission to Javier Mascherano to talk with Barcelona in what they predict will be a €20 Million deal.
This will come as a shock to Liverpool fans who have been dismissing speculation that Mascherano was going to leave, the reality that he may well be leaving is now gaining momentum.
El Mundo did say Liverpool’s willingness to allow Mascherano to speak with Barcelona does not mean he will leave, we venture to say otherwise, if the talks do go ahead he will be leaving.
With the prospect of Xabi Alonso also on his way to Real Madrid seems that Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title next year will take a serious hit losing two highly influential figures.

Rafa has already stated that Mascherano is not for sale for anything less than £50,000,000. He is to much of an integral part of the team and also the style of play. This story is utter rubbish as 20,000,000 euros translates to around £18,000,000 which is not even as much as we paid for him only a year ago!
Get real. This is El Mundo jumbo. Liverpool wouldn’t let Mascherano go for 20m Euros and probably won’t let him go at all. They just have to adjust Maschers’ pay to give him parity with other stars and he’ll stay.

El Mundo is the mouthpiece of Barcelona and always has been used for unsettling players or false rumours.
Mascherano is 25yrs old, going to improve as not at his peak, cost £17.5m and signed a 4 1/2 yr contract since when he has improved as a player, become captain of Argentina and is regarded of one of the best holding / defensive midfield players in world football.
If Valenicia and Johnson are worth £16 – 18m, and with the money being thrown around at ridiculous rates does anybody really think that Liverpool will sell him for 20m Euros (which would be at a loss at today’s rates)
Mascherano would be worth somewhere in the region of 40m Euros + but he will stay and sign an improved contract with Liverpool.

And no, any reputable source says that Barcelona have expressed an interest in signing Mascherano but not one has said that Liverpool have given permission to Barcelona to speak to Mascherano. Unless you count Goal.com as a reputable website. For the record, I’m not ruling out the possibility of Mascherano leaving Liverpool, I’m full aware that there’s a real chance of it happening. But to say that Barcelona have had a bid accepted and have been given permission to talk to Mascherano is difficult to believe because no one reputable has reported it, and also because of the total unreliability of this website and it’s source.
My initial issue wasn’t with Mascherano leaving Liverpool anyway, it’s how this website seems to conjure up stories out of nowhere, the majority of which are utter bullshit. That’s fine if you’re looking for a bit of excitement regarding your club and the possibility of a player coming in, but if you believe the stories that are reported on this website claiming that so-and-so has signed for a club or that ‘club x’ has had a bid accepted when no one else reputable has reported it, well then you’re just fooling yourself I’m afraid.

El Mundo is about as reputable as The Sun, means sod all. And I haven’t seen anything on Sky Sports about Barcelona having a bid accepted. Funny though, I just read through the latest article on Mascherano on the Sky Sports website which says ‘But Laporta, who handed holding midfielder Yaya Toure a new contract on Saturday, remains a fan of the 25-year-old, and could yet consider making the Premier League Reds an offer’ (Source; http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_5405729,00.html). ‘Could yet make an offer’. Hmm, strange that, from that article it would suggest that Barcelona haven’t even made a bid. Even if Sky sports did run a story on it, their source would have been El Mundo, which is not creditable.

The link you posted links to articles that say that Barcelona are interested in Mascherano and/or are preparing to make a bid. I’ve not once denied that this is the case, the only thing I have said is more than likely to be false is that Barcelona have already had a bid accepted and are in talks with Mascherano.
