Liverpool and Real Madrid on verge of media meltdown

51711325The Rafa Benitez to Real Madrid headlines have not started in earnest yet but be assured they will, they were in full force last October and have never really gone away.

A media meltdown is about to commence with both clubs that will see them dominating the sports pages for the worst reason of all, failure on the field of play.

In particular it will be the futures of both Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and Real Madrid’s Pellegrini that will be subjected to the most speculation.

After Real Madrid’s exit from last nights Champions League it is almost certain that Pellegrini will be terminated at the end of the season regardless if they win the title or for that matter what the board may be saying right now.

Real Madrid sack title winners rather regularly when they don’t also win the Champions League thus Pellegrini’s fate was sealed last night.

Now Benitez has consistently stated that he will not walk out on Liverpool and the American owners at one time or another have more or less agreed that Benitez’s job is safe.

However, anyone looking at Benitez can see it is a man that is fast losing his grip at Anfield, he appears to have lost some of the dressing room, the fans have turned, confidence is at an all time low and even Birmingham City have them in their sites in the Premiership.

The signs are that Benitez and Liverpool will part ways at the end of the season, tonight’s loss to Lille will have done nothing to lift spirits at a club who’s morale has collapsed from the top to bottom.

Whether Benitez will coach at Real Madrid we do not know, what we do know is that the rumours will start very soon, the circumstances are fertile ground for the media and with both Real Madrid and Liverpool season’s unraveling the press will just get worse.

Real Madrid’s fans would probably welcome Benitez while the Liverpool faithful will now more than likely be glad to see the back of the Spaniard and this will be reflected in the betting markets which are usually the best guides in these sort of situations.

All in all changes look almost certain at The Bernabeau and Anfield and the press, and media at large will be having a field day.

good luck Madrid! – let me know if you need someone to drive him to the airport. Maybe we could throw Lucas, Kuyt, Insua, and Ngog into the deal and maybe take Alonso back……

This article has just started the media circus!!!

Rafa won’t quit Liverpool knowing that by doing so Liverpool will simply nosedive out of sight…those ‘fans’ who think Rafa is the root of Liverpool’s problems haven’t a clue…

Liverpool have suffered Boardroom instability ever since these new owners took over.

Oh and those people who can count…yes Rafa has spent £220M (or whatever)…but his total capital spend (ie new money given to him by the Board) since he’s been manager is around £40M, the rest being profits from player-sales.

I think you’ll find £40M over 5 years (ie £8M per year) is probably the lowest capital spends of all teams in the Premier League.
