Lazio are lining up a bid for Newcastle winger Jonas Gutierrez despite the player stating that he wants to stay at St James Park for years to come. Admirers of Gutierrez have increased by the bucket load and it was always going to be a matter of time before a club at least made a phone call to the Newcastle manager Chris Hughton enquiring about the players availability.
Hughton will be loathe to let the Argentinian leave and it can be assumed that in order for the owner Mike Ashley to authorize the sale that a big bid would be required in an attempt to appease the fans who would not be pleased to see Gutierrez sold.
Lazio are not flush with cash either and it is hard to see them coming up with the funds required to lure Gutierrez away from St James Park but that has not stopped the Italian press claiming that Gutierrez is indeed on Lazio’s list of players they want.
It will be interesting to see if Lazio remain the only club interested in Gutierrez, if they do then the player probably will remain a Newcastle player, if they are not and some serious offers are made then anything is possible.
