John Terry relationship rules out manager for England job

After reports emerged linking former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink with the vacant manager’s post for the England national team, his agent Cees van Nieuwenhuizen has denied all speculation, citing his client’s relationship with John Terry as the reason.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, van Nieuwenhuizen stated, “I don’t, based on previous conversations with England FA board members, imagine that it would work. Guus also has a very strong personal relationship with John Terry and would be on his side in all this.”

The agent also went on to say that Hiddink may also be wary of taking the job for the short term.

Considering the fact that Fabio Capello left the post after his public support of John Terry, it would be highly unlikely that Hiddink would be given the job. Moreover, the FA are widely touted to be looking for a homegrown manager and despite his vast experience, Hiddink does not fit that bill.

For now, Harry Redknapp seems to be the frontrunner for the post, although with Spurs keen to hold on to him, the FA will find it hard to prise him away. The decision to accept Capello’s resignation is already seeming like a bad one.
