Fiorentina V Bayern Munich Preview

bayern-munichBack in 2008 these two played each other twice in the group  stage, and Bayern won 3-0 at home, while the return leg in Florence ended 1-1. This time around Bayern only won 2-1 at home, and their 2nd goals was a clear offside too, so you maybe one would think it better to back the home side.

I beg to differ though, for Fiorentina are clearly out of form and cannot defeat a team of butterflies is they played one. Just one win in their last 10 game in all competitions? What kind of form is that for a team that is playing in the CL knock-out stage??

Even that lonely win came against Lowly Livorno. Livorno of course are inside the Serie A relegation zone and are winless in 8 themselves, unlike Bayern who are undefeated in 18 and have finally managed to take the lead of the Bundesliga table standings.

Fiorentina also lost 2 home games since their defeat in Munich. These were against Milan and Juve though, but would you consider Bayern any less than either?

I suspect the Viola confidence to be at it’s extreme low and with Mutu, Gobbi, Gamberini and Santana all out I cannot see them winning here.

Robben (who was spared in the 1st game) and also Ribery (who came in as a substitute) will be starters, so offensively Bayern will be lethal.

However, both Demichelis and Contento will be out for the Bavarian defense, and it could be that Fiorentina have a decent chance of finding the net themselves.

I’ll settle for Bayern on level ball along with the over 2.5 goals option.

Picks:

Bayern 0 A.H.
Over 2.5 goals
