Everton set to splash the cash in Portuguese raid

Everton manager David Moyes is planning a double swoop for Sporting Lisbon midfielders Miguel Veloso and Joao Moutinho. Moyes has been a long time admirer of Moutinho having bid for the player last summer and with Lisbon failing to qualify for the Champions League he sees it as an ideal opportunity to buy them both for a cut price.

It is believed that a bid in the region of £19 million would be enough to seal the deal for the Portugal international stars and it is highly likely the two players would jump at the chance to join the Premier League. The Toffees finished 8th this year in the league and Moyes understands that he must invest in his current squad to catch up with the likes of the ever-improving Tottenham and Aston Villa.

However, this deal could lead to the exit of English sensation Jack Rodwell. Manchester United has been linked with a £15-20 million swoop and Everton board would have to consider a bid of this nature. Although he is a local lad, Rodwell would surely dream of a move to a huge club like Man Utd so possibly Moyes is looking to soften the blow with a double signing.

The Everton Faithful would surely be disappointed at the loss of Rodwell but would appreciate the Portuguese replacements. Veloso, who recently said ‘for sure, I would like to move to England’, has also been linked to Bolton and Arsenal in previous summers however it could be Everton who seal the deal first. With players like Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta returning from injury next season it is likely Goodison Park will see a much improved squad and will hopefully be pushing for European qualification.

Just one thing, we could probably pull in £15m for Pienaar. As such, we will not be selling Rodwell, the family jewels, for a paltry £15-20m.

  • Peter Sandel

No cos pienaar is a free agent so not likely. also i think rodwell might go for £20 million as he may just flop?……

    1. Everton finished 8th, not 7th.

    2. Rodwell has just agreed a new contract which he will sign on Monday.

    3. Why would Veloso & Moutinho want to sign for Everton when they embarrassed them in the Europa League this season?

  • Paul D

Pienaar has over a year left on his contract you clown

  • Colonel Bogey

Ahh, Moutinho again. I wondered when this would pop up again. Same old bulls**t year after year.

  • Jay Harris

Pienaar is not a FREE AGENT.

He has over a year to run on his contract!!

As such he would command 6-10 million .

  • mark

pienaar is not a free agent but we will only get about 10m if he goes.

  • gaz

pienaar free agent? nest season duhhhh

Who writes these sad stories? Moyes has said nobody is leaving rodders will sign a new deal soon, nuts is the only dodgy one….

And even he has said he wants to stay, as much as I would like moutinho and veloso not even blue bill can find 19million down the back of his settee

To Peter, you obviously don’t know your football, if you did you’d know that Pienaar is under contract for another year, so he’s not free & if anyone wants him they will have to pay top dollar otherwise he’ll see out his final year at Everton.

As for Rodwell, with the level of competition available for him, £20m is a starting point for bidding, the final package will have to be worth alot more than that. Besides, Rodwell transfer talk is pretty much irrelevant as he already has 4 years left on a deal & will sign a new improved deal in the comming days.

  • Colonel Bogey

Paul, who said Rodwell has agreed to sign a contract on Monday?

  • Shanks

I’d keep Pienaar and let him go on a free, if that’s what he wants, next year
we couldn’t relace him with a player of similar qulaity and energy for the 6-8 £million we might pull in

  • jackh

the guy said ‘could lead’ to rodwell deal, not it will. you guys need to understand that bigger clubs can just come and sign our great players and rodwell is one of them……but please dont go!!!! good article.

  • bloggs

‘Sam Moloney’? Some kind of rhyming slang, innit? It wants to be if this is the best you can do. Twaddle first and twaddle last….

  • Belter Central

    Another site of complete BELTERS.

    a. Pienaar still under contract for 12 months and negotiations are on going

    b. Rodwell has 4 years on his existing contract and it’s known he’s close to signing a 5 year new deal (it has been known for weeks)

    c. Jackh – thinking “bigger clubs” could come in and sign Everton players shows he’s another belter.

    Good article?

    Are you kidding?

The idiot that said Pienaar is out of contract must be a RS supporter or 10-years old. I’m not sure which.

Anyway, Pienaar is wanted buy a host of clubs. It seems likely that we can get in excess of £10m without even trying. I would say £15m is distinct possibility given these are all top clubs.

We could also swap him for Bentley. I know that’s controversial, and Bentley might not even want to drop wages. But Pienaar is going whether we like it or not. It’s time for Moyesie to make sure he doesn’t lose him for next to nothing in the January window or for absolutely nothing next summer.

  • [...] It’s good to see Ronaldo hasn’t lost his charmful arrogance, Ronaldo said Portugal are among the favourites to win the tournament but, credit to him, he did call on his team mates to be at their best because he cannot perform miracles. He could be right, they’ve got a good squad. A strong centre back pairing from Real Madrid and Chelsea with Pepe and Carvalho is supported by creative midfielders like Everton targets Joao Moutinho and Miguel Veloso. [...]
