Let’s be realistic: Liverpool are eliminated form the CL and are playing for the Europa League now. They would need a semi-miracle to knock out Fiorentina and take their place in the final 16, and I don’t think Fiorentina will lose at home to Lyon tonight either.
However, the Reds do need a win.. just any win at all now. They need to break the vicious circle they put themselves in, and they probably won’t get a better chance than tonight’s game vs a team that has already lost all 4 games they’ve played in the group so far.
Still no Torres, no Reira and no Babel either, but at least Gerrard should feature, albeit with a pain killing injection.
I have no complaints about the Reds ability to score goals, even without their injured players. It’s the backline that worries me the most as they have been conceding goals like I’ve never seen them do before.
However, Debrecen are of a very limited firepower and should not trouble the shaky defense line of Liverpool, while the Hungarian defense itself is as porous as a sieve, and it should be easy for the Reds to get a few goals past them.
Note: Liverpool scored twice in each of their last 2 games, and have not failed to find the net in the last 7 games.
