Aston Villa have set their sights on replacing Gerard Houllier with Everton’s David Moyes at the end of the season. Even if Aston Villa stay in the Premiership the Villa board will look to replace the French manager after a disastrous season so far. Aston Villa are currently 14th in the Premier League with 33 points, just one above the relegation zone despite spending hugely in January, while Moyes consistently has Everton in the top half of the table while operating on a shoe-string budget.
The Daily Mail reports that Villa’s chief executive Paul Falkner made the comment that Villa’s “best chance of staying up is with Gerard”. But they have the reserve-team manager Kevin McDonald available if the results continue in the same vein and Villa get sucked into the relegation zone.

Gerard Houllier previously managed Liverpool between 1998 and 2004. He rebuilt the team and guided the Anfield club to the FA Cup, League Cup and the UEFA Cup. He then moved to Olympigue Lyonnais were he won two successive Ligue 1 titles. He took a break from football before joining Aston Villa at the start of this season.
But results have been disappointing at Villa Park this season and many players have become disaffected with manager and the way things are going at the club. There have been reports that morale is suffering under Houllier’s strict rules.
