Manchester United’s veteran winger Ryan Giggs has signed another extension with the club that will see him remain at Old Trafford for another year.
Speaking about the new deal, manager Sir Alex Ferguson stated to the club’s website, “Ryan is a marvellous player. In many ways, he epitomises all my teams here at United: he has constantly re-invented himself, adapted to the changing nature of the game and retained that desire and hunger for success.”
He also went on to add that the young players can learn a lot from Giggs and that the veteran still leads the way in all training sessions as well as matches.
The player himself seemed ecstatic at having extended his playing career and stated that he is confident of his ability to still play an important part for the Red Devils. Although Giggs no longer has the pace that he used to possess, his guile and ability on the ball has not decreased and the 38-year old can still play a vital part in the next campaign.
However, recently there have been concerns raised from various quarters about United’s dependence on their veterans, especially after the club persuaded Paul Scholes to come out of retirement and one does feel that it is about time that the club started looking at recruiting younger players, who could provide the club with some immediate firepower to match their neighbors and league leaders Manchester City.
