Chelsea to move for Real Madrid midfielder

According to a report on ESPN this morning, Chelsea have given up on signing Franck Ribery, and have turned their attention to one of Real Madrid’s star rejects, the Dutch international Wesley Sneijder.

The article says: English giants Chelsea hope to enlist the services of Real Madrid wonder winger Wesley Sneijder.

Chelsea’s attempts to land prime midfield target Franck Ribery were shot down recently, with the France international stating his preference to play in Spain with Real Madrid.

Since that rebuff, newly-appointed Chelsea boss Carlos Ancelotti has turned his attention to Sneijder.

Sneijder’s first-team future at the Bernabeu remains undecided, due to the arrival of the new batch of Galacticos, or more specifically £80million superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Dutch international, however, remains optimistic: “I’d like to stay and hope coach Manuel Pellegrini will give me a chance but there are many rumours.”

With the Madrid midfield becoming slowly but surely overcrowded, a move to Stamford Bridge could be Sneijder’s first-team answer.

Would Sneijder fit into Chelsea’s new attacking style?
