Although Didier Drogba has stated that he is still hoping to get a new contract at Stamford Bridge, but it seems that Roman Abramovich is not going to give in to his demands for an added two years given Drogba’s age and the fact that Chelsea are trying to reduce the age of their squad.
With Anelka leaving Chelsea in the summer as well, it is certain that Andre Villas-Boas will be looking for another top class hitman to complement Sturridge and Torres, and according to the Spain daily Sport, their target is Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.
Jose Mourinho also has Karim Benzema at the Bernabeau but there are rumours that Real Madrid are leading the race to save Carlos Tevez from his Man City nightmare, in which case Mourinho may be happy to cash in on Higuain to fund the deal.
Given that Higuain is just 23 years-old it seems that Abramovich will be prepared to pay up to £40m for the Argentinian hitman, and if Villas-Boas can line up Higuain, Torres and Sturridge in the Chelsea forward line they are almost certain to score bagfulls of goals every game.
