Today’s top transfer gossip
The Daily Mail suggests that Bordeaux striker Anthony Modeste is on the verge of joining Premier League strugglers Blackburn on loan. The report goes on to say that there is no clause in the deal regarding a permanent move in the summer and the deal will only be a temporary one should the player pass his medical, scheduled to be held soon. Manager Steve Kean has virtually nothing to spend and loan deals are perhaps all he can look for in order to strengthen his side. This deal has a good chance of fructifying in the next few days. Marseille fullback Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that he might consider moving to a bigger club in order to increase his chances of playing in the national side and that has alerted Chelsea, who were believed to be keen on the player. The Daily Mirror reports that Azpilicueta said, “For me, these are just rumours. There has been no contact, and I am still bound to OM until 2014. Now, if the leaders of Chelsea want me, they should first discuss that with OM. If a proposal comes, I will think about it. It is more difficult to start in the national team when you do not play at a great club. You have to be at Real Madrid or Barcelona. But I feel good today at OM.” Financially this deal should not pose any problem for the Blues and should they table an offer, then we could see the move going through. (Daily Mirror)
Sounds realistic
French giants Lille and Lyon are keen on Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong and are looking to bring the player on loan, if reports in the Daily Mail are to be believed. QPR and West Ham are also believed to be interested, although Spurs are only willing to listen to permanent offers rather than loan moves. Bassong is not in Harry Redknapp’s first team plans and could make an exit, but only if one of his suitors makes a permanent offer. (Daily Mail)
PSG seem to be back in the hunt for Manchester City’s troubled frontman Carlos Tevez. According to The Guradian, manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly said, “Everyone knows that we want a striker. Carlos Tevez – it’s a great opportunity for us to have a great striker. Today Tevez isn’t playing for Manchester City, but he wants to play. Today, nothing is done. We have to talk with the player, and with Manchester City. We hope to find a good solution. I haven’t had him on the phone, not him or his agent. It’s (director of football) Leonardo who is looking after that.” PSG and Inter are the only two clubs in the running for Tevez now and due to their financial clout, the French giants may just have the edge over the illustrious Italians. No Way Jose rumour:
After a bevy of clubs, most notably Saudi side Al Hilal expressed their interest in unsettled Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones, the Potters have moved quickly and have slapped a £12m price tag on him, reports the Daily Mirror. Despite not being a regular starter for Tony Pulis, the player is clearly an integral part of the squad and the Potters’ decision to demand such a high fee is nothing but an attempt to ward off interest. Jones will, in all probability, be staying put, at least till the end of the season. (Daily Mirror)
