Barcelona reduce Man City’s price for Eto’o

It looks like Man City are getting closer to yet another star signing as it has been revealed in Sport that Barcelona have brought down their asking price for the Cameroon star. The report says: Reports in Spain suggest the lengthy transfer debacle surrounding Manchester City and Barcelona showed signs of a conclusion, after the Catalan giants agreed to lower their asking price for the Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o, as the European Champions are desperate to tie up a deal for Valencia star David Villa.

Spanish Sport publication indicate Eto’o has agreed to a €10 million a year contract at Manchester City, but the player has demanded a large compensation package from his current employers which they are seemingly reluctant to pay.

Barcelona have subsequently lowered their asking price for the three times African player of the year in the hope City might then decide to pay part of Eto’o’s rather puzzling compensation deal.

The striker scored 36 goals last season and is widely regarded as one of the finest strikers in Europe, but with just one year left on his current deal and reluctant to sign an extension on the same terms, the two parties are at loggerheads.

Mark Hughes has pinpointed the former Real Madrid striker as the player capable of catapulting City into the higher echelons of English football, while Barcelona have now set their sights on Valencia striker David Villa. The European champions want to use the money earned from Eto’o’s sale to bring Villa to the Nou Camp, and reports in Spain suggest a happy medium is nearing conclusion.

Man City are beginning to rival Real Madrid for their buying of star players. Can Mark Hughes pull them into a team capable of challenging the Big Four?

If Eto’o arrives it will open the flood gates for all the world’s best players. Yes, City need to offer descent wages at the moment to compensate for not being in Europe next season, but once they get there season after next they won’t need to offer such large wages… so anyone with a bit of sense (likes of JT) should jump on the bandwagon now
