Attorney General’s office keeping a track of Joey Barton’s tweets on John Terry case

Joey Barton’s tweets have now attracted the attention of the Attorney General’s office after it was reported that they were investigating the player’s tweets on the subject of John Terry’s drawn out race row with Anton Ferdinand. Terry was stripped of the England Captaincy yesterday and Barton questioned the FA’s decision on the grounds that he wasn’t proven guilty yet. Terry’s trial has been postponed to July and Barton’s comments over an on-going investigation when he is a team-mate of the Ferdinand has caught the eye of the lawmakers.

The Attorney General has to ensure that Terry faces a fair trial, free from prejudiced opinions. A spokesman for the Attorney General’s office said: “I can confirm the Tweets have been brought to our attention and have been viewed.”

Barton also went into a wide-ranging tirade against the handling of the whole situation as all parties have to wait till the summer to hear the judgement over an event that occurred last October. He also bemoaned the fact that the case went out of the FA’s hand and into the realm of the civil courts. The thorough manner in which the FA dealt the Luis Suarez manner should have been a pointer towards this row also being swiftly handled by the FA.

This isn’t the first that Barton finds himself in the spotlight for his views on Twitter as he has repeatedly drawn the attention of the FA for sharing his contentious view around the clock.
