Aston Villa are preparing to take the ex-Chelsea defender Robert Huth to Villa Park next season if, as expected, Middlesbrough are confirmed as relegated this weekend.
The tall, tough-tackling Huth joined Chelsea as a youth player from Union Berlin, and fought his way through to the first team, but when Jose Mourinho became manager he found it hard to get a game, with Terry, Gallas and Carvalho ahead of him in the pecking order.
But he still got into the German national team and made 17 appearances for them until 2006.
In that year he moved to Middlesbrough for £6m and has become a firm favourite with the Boro fans, but he is expected to be transferred if the team are relegated to help reduce the wage bill.
