Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has rounded on the press for what perceives as misrepresenting what he actually says.
In recent days Wenger has come under attack from both the Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill and Chelsea’s German captain Michael Ballack after he accused Villa of being long ball and Chelsea utilising fouls to win the game.
“I was full of compliment and praise for Chelsea after the game,” Wenger said. “I find it completely unfair from the press that you take one word from my press conference to turn it.”
Wenger’s description of Aston Villa as a long-ball team following a Premier League draw in January also drew a furious reaction from opposite number Martin O’Neill, who described the jibe as an “appalling insult”.
“You did that at Villa, you did that at Chelsea,” Wenger continued. “If you look at the intent of my press conference it was positive to the opponent. If you want, we can have a press conference and I can say nothing, don’t worry.
“As for (Ballack’s comments), I am long enough in England to know that the team who wins can say what they want. They are right. It is my job to take a distance from that and analyse the game in a calm way with a cool head and to analyse what is right.”
Wenger added: “I have to live with all the conclusions that Chelsea are a much better side, but I believe what I believe.”
The thing is that Wenger did say these things, maybe the headlines were a bit sensationalistic and maybe the twist on a story went too far but none of that could have happened without the comments that Wenger made.
He did say that Chelsea used their experience by committing fouls and he did say that Villa use the long ball game.
When a manager lashes out like this it tends to be a sign that he is under serious pressure and the truth is that with the Arsenal “experiment” having now failed for so many years it is easy to see why Wenger is feeling a little hot under the collar.

Footy Latest has backed Arsene Wenger in his latest criticism of the media misrepresenting what he actually says. In their latest article Footy Latest has hit back strong at the media who unfairly twists the Arsenal coach’s words when every they get the chance. The website has pointed out that “the headlines were…sensationalistic.” They go on to say that the media “twists” the stories and that they, the media, “went too far.” It is nice to see that some websites out there are not taken in by the media’s manipulation of quotes made by coaches and players.
How does that feel?
No-one is mightier than the media, I’m afraid, especially the printed part. All the lies , distortions and exaggerations in the world can be printed at will without very little recourse. Wenger, like the rest of us would do well to ignore all media outpourings and take as his motto “Never explain, never complain”.
Sometimes we can’t see the wood for the trees. I for one was embarrased by Wengers constant moaning on the sideline at the Chelsea match. Yes the crowd held onto the ball, yes Chec went from the left of the goal to the right for his goal kick, but if Arsena thinks that is why we lost the match he is very much a dillusional man. Perhaps if someone showed him a video of himself it might shock him back to reality
