Arsenal youngster cautious about England call-up

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain might be blazing a new trail in North London, garnering wide spread acclaim for his impressive performances over the past few weeks. But the 18 year old has his feet firmly planted on the ground, refusing to get carried away, especially with regards to the England squad. There have been reports suggesting that Fabio Capello has been so enamoured by Oxlade-Chamberlain that he might even make it into the squad for Euro 2012.

But with just a handful first team appearances under his belt it is too early to put the winger under pressure, especially on the International stage. The last thing Arsene Wenger will want is to increase the burden on his young shoulders. The player himself remains cautious about an England call-up as he told the Metro, “I am focusing on Arsenal. Obviously it would be very nice, but I have just got to take it step by step.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain needs to look no further than Theo Walcott for a player who faced the pitfalls of the International level at a very young age. Walcott has struggled to impose himself despite bursting on to the scene at a young age and even making it to a World Cup while still in his teens.
