Arsenal V Chelsea Preview

arsenal logoIn EPL it’s never over till it’s over, and it could very well be over if Chelsea win this fixture, so I’m discounting this option here and now.

Both sides have been on a relatively excellent run, but I’ll admit the Blues have been more impressive in their respective 2 games played after the international break, while Arsenal were shocked by Sunderland before they responded well against Standard Liege.

In the midweek CL schedule I predicted exactly what Arsenal would be like. They did go out to seal the game in the first half so they could preserve their energy for Chelsea today.

Ancelotti’s men however did more than what was needed, and although they did get rewarded by an away win in Portugal I did not see the need for them to get one. A draw was enough IMHO.

Arsenal’s injury woes were severed by the loss of 3 more in the game vs Standard. However, Arshavin will probably be fit, while Gallas and Gibbs will miss out.

Chelsea have much less worries and no fresh injuries. They even welcomed both Ballack and Deco back in the midweek, and Lampard is now likely to appear at the Emirates Stadium as well, so effectively The Blues are at full strength, Bosingwa being their only regular starter on the sideline.

I never worry about Arsenal vs the “other big boys”. Wenger seems to enjoy playing those, while playing “minor” sides is another matter altogether. In other words, Arsenal excel only when they have spaces in their opponents’ back lines, while they usually suffer against a packed defense of 11 behind the ball.

Hopefully Chelsea will be playing for the win as well, so that will leave the Gunners some room to maneuver, and my best guess is speedy guys like Arshavin, Villa and Nasri could very well find themselves some scoring opportunities. Whether they do take them or not is another matter, but I guess they’re bound to take some.

Alright then, a half-hearted bet on the home win, along with the over 2.5 goals option. I know for sure the duo of Drogba-Anelka won’t be leaving the Emirates empty handed either.

Pick:

Arsenal win @ 2.80 w/ BWin or VcBet
Over 2.5 goals @ 1.95 w/ Expekt or Unibet
