After the massive Champions League loss to AC Milan at the San Siro and the morale sapping FA Cup loss to Sunderland, Arsene Wenger’s position as manager of Arsenal had seemingly come under threat. However, reports have emerged in the Daily Mail suggesting that the hierarchy of the London based outfit is prepared to back their manager and are willing to afford him a whopping £55m transfer warchest in the summer.
While Wenger’s managerial credentials have never been in doubt, he has come under considerable criticism for his youth policy, with the club now having only a handful of world class players at their disposal. This news will certainly be welcome as Wenger can now stop worrying about his future at the club and start focussing on guiding Arsenal to a top four finish. The task will be easier said than done, although with Chelsea and Liverpool both busy with cup competitions, the Gunners may well sneak in.
The news of massive investment will also be heartening for the disillusioned talismanic striker Robin Van Persie, who is yet to commit his future to the club and may be tempted to do so only if the club can prove their ambitions by matching clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United financially.

Wenger is not the right man to be buying new top players.
