Arsenal snubbed as Juve confirm Melo deal nearly complete

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was very keen on signing the Brazilian Felipe Melo from Fiorentina, but Juventus today confirmed that a deal is nearly finalised, leaving Wenger to ponder his options.

A report on Sky Sports said: Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo appears on the brink of joining Juventus after the Turin giants hinted that a deal is set to be finalised.

Arsenal looked to be the leading contenders to secure the Brazil international’s services when the Viola stated they would be willing to strike a transfer involving Emmanuel Eboue.

However, reports emanating from Italy claim Melo is Juve-bound, and president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has intimated the Old Lady are presently tying up a reported £21million agreement.

“Melo is not yet a Juve player,” said Cobolli Gigli to Gazzetta dello Sport. “The negotiations are still ongoing.

“We still need to define certain terms to officially confirm his signing.”

Melo arrived in Florence from Spanish side Almeria last summer in a £7million transfer.

He is contracted to Fiorentina until 2013 and is expected to pen a five-year deal with the Turin side.

So who will Arsenal go for now? Lorik Cana?
