Arsenal ride their luck to beat Hull City

The Gunners are level with points with Chelsea at the top of the Premier League after a last-gasp win at the KC Stadium, with Nicklas Bendtner stabbing the ball home in the 93rd minute to bag his team all three points. It was a strangely entertaining match, with Hull having to play the entire second half with ten men after George Boateng was sent off before the interval.

While the midfielder can have no complaints about his red card, he should have been joined in that early bath by Sol Campbell, with the Arsenal central defender lucky to only receive a yellow card for fouling Jen Vennegoor of Hesselink. While Andre Marriner can be given the benefit of the doubt on this one, Campbell then went straight through Kamil Zayatte and the referee should have given the veteran his marching orders.

It had appeared that Jimmy Bullard’s penalty was going to cancel out Andrey Arshavin’s early striker and bag the Tigers a much-needed point. However, Boaz Myhill failed to hold Denilson’s long-range shot and Arsenal’s Great Dane pounced to keep the Gunners firmly in the title race. It was an unconvincing display from the Gunners, although they’re firmly in the title race which is something that can’t be said of their title assault over the past couple of seasons.
