Arsenal linked again with move for former defensive target

This latest piece of gossip surrounding Arsenal has sort of filtered through various sites, however it appears to have originated with Sky Sports and considering that they are one of the more respected media outlets then it may well have some legs to it.

So what is the rumour? Arsenal are apparently rumoured to be monitoring the progress of Blackburn defender Scott Dann and in fact are considering making a bid for the ex Birmingham defender. According to SkySports Arsenal are monitoring developments due to the injury crisis at The Emirates Stadium and that Wenger may make a move for Dann because of the injuries building up.

The article also states that Wenger had his doubts over Dann last summer, but this apparently must have changed if Sky Sports are of the opinion that Wenger may make a move for the 24 year old.

Dann had previously been linked with The Gunners but ended up signing for Blackburn only last summer, so it would be a surprise if the player then joins Arsenal just a few months later. Dann had been brought in because of the loss of Phil Jones to Man Utd

It has to be noted that Wenger has already stated that he will not be bringing in any new defenders but for Sky Sports to run with such a rumour one has to think that The Frenchman may have changed his mind, but regardless, it is still a very questionable rumour.

It at least takes the spotlight away from Christopher Samba who has been at the centre of speculation recently, one can only imagine what Blackburn manager Steve Kean thinks of the transfer window, it must be driving him crazy.
Bottom line is that this rumour, despite its source, is unlikely to happen.

  • I’d prefer that we got a proven left or right back and allowed our young centre backs such as Miquel to go on loan to develop

Wenger never said he will not bring in any defender, rather, he would monitor the injury situation of the club, before the window closes.
