AC Milan come to Old Trafford tonight with one thought in their minds, and that is to overturn the 2-3 deficit they conceded at the San Siro.
Dutch veteran midfielder Clarence Seedorf believes it’s like playing the final, while Ronaldinho reckons Rooney can be stopped from finding the net.
“If we are to win at Old Trafford and eliminate Manchester United, we will need to put in our best performance of the season,” said Seedorf to skysports.com.
“For me, if we win, it would be one of the biggest moments in my career.
“Milan need to stamp their authority on Europe again and it is vital that we enter this match looking to re-establish our dominance.
“I have played in many matches where we have had to score, but over the last few days I have seen the determination building in this squad.
“This match will be very open and intense, but that is good. For us this game is like the Champions League final, in a historical stadium.
“Victories in this stadium are to be savoured and I hope we will have reason to celebrate once more.
“To go out of the Champions League to a big rival would not be a disaster, but this squad have fought hard to go a long way in Europe,
“There are now 90 minutes remaining and that could be a very long time for both sides on Wednesday.”
Ronaldinho also asserted confidence is high amongst his side’s ranks, and thinks the key to winning is to stop Rooney.
“Rooney was incredible in the first match,” Ronaldinho said. “We have watched videos of the game and the key to victory for us will be stopping him receiving the ball close to our penalty area.
“If we can stop him our own options soar. We can beat United. As far as I am concerned, this match is like the Champions League final itself. I see a very attacking game with many goals.”
Also coach Leonardo shared the views of his player and compatriot. “Rooney is a fixed point of reference in the United team,
“It is incredible to see the way he has developed, grown and matured as a player.
“Maybe it has had something to do with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving because it meant he needed to step up.”
We certainly are looking forward to see 2 of Europe’s biggest names and most experienced sides, and it could be a close competition between the two right to the final minute, just as was Fiorentina v Bayern last night.
